M3 CP - Awareness Poster - "Don't Say Gay" Bill

The Parental Rights in Education Bill, House Bill 1557 will ban any and all topics or discussions about gender, sexual orientation, and LGBTQ+ topics in public schools for grades K-3. Supporters and makers of this bill claim that these topics are just "inappropriate" for children. The bill also encourages teachers and staff to notify parents if their child has engaged in or been exposed to these topics. The latest addition to the bill requires staff to notify parents if their child has shared with a staff member their sexual orientation or gender identity for whatever reason.

The creator of this bill claims that this is all harmless and just means that these topics won't be discussed until children reach the 4th grade. But this bill is incredibly harmful and encourages outing children before they are ready and opening them up to a potentially abusive home life. Young queer children already have a hard time accepting their identities or feeling safe in most spaces. What supporters of this bill claim is harmless is just outright homophobic and transphobic under the guise of 'protecting our children'.

I based my design around the idea of dressing babies in onesies that say, "Ladies' Man", "Hide your daughters," "Daddy's Little Princess," "Sorry boys, but my Dad said no," etc. which all assume that a baby would be heterosexual and cisgender as if it were a default. My intention was to point out the hypocrisy in that how heterosexual/cisgender people seem to forget they also have a gender and sexuality that is imposed on them from a young age. It's so normalized, it's literally everywhere and in everything--talk about an agenda.
